Traffic op nets 47 on first day

KUALA LUMPUR: Forty-seven people were arrested on the opening day of Ops Warta 1 launched by Selangor traffic police yesterday.

Selangor Public Order and Traffic chief Supt Che Hussin Omar said 500 traffic police officers from 12 districts in the state conducted the joint operation focusing on Gombak district.

“A total of 105 arrest notices were pasted on the doors and gates of homes and offices of identified traffic offenders who were not in when officers visited them,” he said.

He said the crackdown was conducted from 8am to 4.30pm, adding that he expected more offenders to be picked up in the following days.

Supt Husin said offenders were released on police bail of between RM500 and RM1,000 depending on the severity of the offences, and would be taken to court soon.

He advised those who had traffic summonses to pay up quickly to avoid problems.

Ops Warta 1, which will last till Oct 10, is targeted at tracking down 38,597 traffic offenders who have not settled summonses and compounds.
