Summonses for 60,000 offences

GEORGE TOWN: The state Road Transport Department issued 45,000 summonses last year for 60,000 offences. State deputy director K. Kanesan said the offences mainly involved driving without a licence, using expired road tax discs and lorries carrying excess loads. Kanesan, however, said the department's efforts during operations were often thwarted by "tontos" who acted as lookouts for lorry drivers. He said this after launching a Fuel Smart Driving Campaign at a mall here yesterday.
