JOHOR BARU: Lorry operators in Johor want the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to withdraw a ruling prohibiting lorries from carrying more than 60% of their capacity.

The Johor Lorry Operators Association agreed to the ruling, which was enforced only in Johor in April.

President Leow Hock Tiap said more than 20 lorries belonging to members had been seized since April, resulting in heavy losses.

“Operators in other states are not affected by the ruling.

“We are appealing to the department to abolish this ruling as it has done more harm than good,” he said.

Leow clarified that although the association agreed to the ruling it never “instructed” the JPJ to enforce it, as claimed by some officers.

State JPJ director Rosli Ramli said he would refer the matter to the headquarters in Putrajaya.
