Workshop owner: State Treasury takes a long time to pay us

KUALA TERENGGANU: A workshop owner, whose outlet is among the four major authorised service centres for state government-owned Proton Perdana V6 Executive cars, admitted that they imposed a 25% surcharge for servicing the vehicles.

AMBL Services proprietor Nazri Omar said most workshops had to enforce the surcharge because payment for the services from the state Treasury was only received between two to three months from the time the claims were submitted.

“We have to wait for a while to receive the payment and that’s why we charge an additional amount,” he said here yesterday.

Nazri said the cost of repairing a Proton Perdana would depend on the vehicle’s malfunction.

“The replacement of certain parts would be costly but would only be in the RM10,000 bracket. Workshop owners have to wait for Public Works Department (PWD) approval if the repair price exceeded RM12,000, “ he said.

Nazri said that for normal service of the fleet, the cost would be between RM250 and RM300.

He had also carried out repair work on the Proton Perdana with the registration number TAF 677 which was used by the State Secretary’s office on Aug 27, 2007 costing RM8,3014, including the surcharge.

Nazri, a mechanic for more than a decade, admitted that it was more expensive to maintain a Proton Perdana V6 compared to a Mercedes.
